HELLO, I’M KATE SWARM. My passion for supporting new families started more than a decade ago with the birth of my own daughter. I felt a strong desire to pay forward the wisdom I had received, as well as bridge gaps in care I felt were missing from the traditional system. I received my DONA Birth Doula Certification in 2009 and spent the next couple of years taking private clients in Portland, Oregon. During this time I also volunteered with PDX Doulas, supporting labor and deliveries at OHSU, and became a peer counselor for Nursing Mothers Counsel. I later became a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and taught classes for Salem Hospital. I have continued my wellness-centered education as a certified yoga teacher. Teaching yoga for more than 8 years has given me a strong foundation in anatomy, fitness, mediation, mindfulness and breath work, which I integrate into care when desired and appropriate. Having been diagnosed with secondary infertility in my early 20s and autoimmune thyroid disease in my early 30s, I have an intimate awareness of just how closely physical, mental and emotional care are linked. I use my experience, training and skills to take a personal and holistic approach to caring for each family. Holding a space for transformation and healing has been my life’s work and it is an honor to support families during such a precious time.
