Birth workers supporting you, & each other

Welcome To Salem Doulas

Whether you are currently pregnant, have recently welcomed a new addition to your family or are in the planning stages of starting a family, we are here for you.

We are a group of birth workers serving families in the Mid-Willamette Valley. Working together as Salem Doulas ensures that each one of us can provide reliable, knowledgeable and caring continuous support.  We are devoted to, and passionate about, supporting families throughout pregnancy and postpartum.

We encourage you to interview and meet several of us, and find the doula that fits best with you, your partner and family. We want to add to, and never take away from this life changing event. Because each of us are individual doulas, we all have different service packages. Please contact us individually to find out about our unique service packages and the fees we charge.

What We Do

Birth Doulas

  • Recognize birth as a key experience that both mom and her partner will remember all their lives.
  • Understand the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor.
  • Assist in birth plan preparation.
  • Stay with the mom & her support person throughout labor & delivery.
  • Provide emotional support, physical comfort measures & an objective viewpoint, as well as helping mom & her support person get the information they need to make informed decisions.
  • Facilitate communication between mom, her partner, and her clinical care providers.
  • Perceive their role as nurturing and protecting mom & her partner's memory of the birth experience.
  • Allow mom's partner to participate at his/her comfort level.

Postpartum Doulas

  • Offer education, companionship and nonjudgmental support during the postpartum fourth trimester
  • Assist with newborn care, family adjustment, meal preparation and light household tidying
  • Offer evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents and make appropriate referrals when necessary

Research evidence shows that the quality services of a postpartum doula can ease the transition that comes with the addition of a baby to a family, improve parental satisfaction and reduce the risk of mood disorders.
